OVERVIEW
The Occupational English Test (OET) is an English language proficiency test specifically designed for healthcare professionals. This test covers the medical related language skills and assesses the communication expertise of aspirants wishing to study or practice in an English-speaking environment.

FORMAT
OET measures four basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Different tests based on the same modules are conducted for the above mentioned 12 professions. Readingand listening test format is same for all occupations whereas a different writing and speaking test is conducted depending on the profession.
MARKING CRITERIA
Speaking test is assessed on following 4 criteria:
- intelligibility
- fluency
- appropriateness
- resources of grammar and expressions
Writing test is assessed on following 6 criteria:
- purpose
- content
- conscience and clarity
- genre and style
- organization and layout
- language
Each of the four modules are marked on a scale of 0-500 which are later mapped to a separate letter grade from A (highest) to E (lowest). There is no overall grade for OET. You can OET by scoring a minimum of 350 score in each module. Results are usually available after 16 days of exams.
